Jochim Hansen
My research focuses on three topics in the area of social cognition:
One major line of research examines the informativeness of cognitive fluency experiences for social judgments and decisions. In particular, this research focuses on the influence of the processing context on the informational value of fluency experiences.
A second line of research examines some determinants and consequences of level of construal, that is abstract (decontextualized, coherent, superordinate) versus concrete (context-dependent, detailed, subordinate) mental representations. For instance, I investigate the influence of action representation on imitation processes, and the relationship between psychological distance (which influences construal level) and causality perceptions.
Accordingly, my research program brings together aspects of experiences during cognitive processing (i.e., fluency) and mental representations (i.e., level of construal)—both of which are important when social agents make judgments and decisions.
